Sincere Disapproval

JakeThe Missourian published an article about me today if you are interested in reading it. Also, you might be interested in this link they provide. And, by the way, I’m not really a janitor at the BSU; I was just helping out that day.

Convergence Conspiracy

Enemy of the StateTiffany and I were watching Enemy of the State tonight and discussing the interesting points it brings up about personal privacy versus public security.

Then Jon Voight’s  character’s birthdate was 9/11, a strange coincidence for this 1998 film.

This reminded me of the time a couple months ago when I was listening to a podcast on convergence, where the speaker was talking about how often he sees connections in strange places and he began discussing the term ‘physiognomy‘ where the traits of a person connect to certain attributes.  This was a new word for me, but as I walked into the university library to get a wireless signal, I picked up the book sitting beside me.  While my computer starts up, I scan this art book which goes into great detail about physiognomy.  This is the only book around, at the random seat I chose.  How does this stuff happen?  Does it mean anything?  Is there something behind this 9/11 clue in a film about national security?  What a strange place we inhabit.

When quick gifts aren’t enough

TIME writes an article about food aid in Africa and its lacking results.  How can we really end poverty and hunger?  It seems it takes more than simple giving.  We will have to creatively make a difference.

Someone should have caught that earlier.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like someone should have noticed that this might be an issue before it got to the print stage.  Of course, maybe they did; it certainly got attention.

In the Days of the Comet

“No more of this!  No more of this!–Whether the whole world is changed or no, matters nothing.  We two have seen this dawn!” - Melmount (H.G. Wells)
I have seen the dawn; I have been changed.  I must live according to this new system regardless of the change of the world.  It is far scarier to live ruled by love, compassion, and generosity when many are not, but not to live by them is to deny the dawn I’ve seen.
